The Inspiration
was born from a moment familiar to many — when we hide the "Chai" necklace under our shirt.
Abroad Israel, on the street, anywhere that doesn't feel safe.
Like many LGBTQ+ people, who still hide parts of themselves for fear of rejection, violence, or judgment in public spaces.
The pendant speaks of life, identity, belonging, pride and the freedom to be yourself

About
the artist
Niro Taub is an Israeli artist, researcher of Israeli street art and a popular urban tour guide in Tel Aviv.
A graduate of the Visual Communication Department at Bezalel, his practice focuses on the intersection of public space, visual design and local culture.
Artistically, he views Tel Aviv as an open, dynamic field of action that enables a unique social and political expression unlike other cities in Israel - a perspective he brings to his projects under @NIROTRIP.
"Am Israel Gay" is part of a series of works, like "Queens of Israel sq." and "NipplebboyZ", sprayed across the city walls — all calling to highlight the queer community’s protests for equality and tolerance in public space through popular culture, humor and Israeli chutzpah (audacity).

From the street to the chest
The project began with giant ”GAY” Pendants hung across the city - between balconies, on poles and buildings.
The chain that once symbolized restraint fear and life in the closet becomes here a symbol of liberation and pride.
What was graffiti became a jewel.
From the public space on to our body, from the wall to the heart.
